I’ve been out of school for almost 2 months now, so my daily activity of doing absolutely nothing has given me a lot of time to ponder my years spent in college and what I learned over those years.

1. On campus housing not only comes with free internet connection but it also comes with an endless supply of roaches. Now, I’ve always stayed off campus so I was lucky enough to bypass this luxury, but I’ve known a many who did and while visiting I’ve on more than one occasion turned my head to come face to face with one.

2. Spending all day on the yard socializing instead of going to class can oftentimes lead to very unfortunate tan lines. I learned this the hard way after wearing a shirt with criss-cross straps that led to a very white, very noticeable X on my back for the rest of the summer. Let’s just say it severely cut down my clothing options for awhile after that.

3. Moving closer to a fight to get a better view probably isn’t the best idea. Now, you know you’ve done it too. You’re at a party, someone starts fighting and you just got to get closer to see what’s going on. It seems harmless until get you hit in the head with a stray bottle. Yeah… it happened to me.

Good thing I have a hard head.

4. The rain will stop almost immediately after you get to where you’re going. I’ve always been too stubborn to run out in the rain, plus I always have my handy dandy mini leopard print umbrella on hand if needed, but I like to learn by watching other people. And I’ve learned plenty from watching other students run from building to building in the pouring rain only to have it stop moments after they step foot inside. Maybe it’s just me, but being a few minutes late sounds likes a much better deal than sitting around in wet draws for the remainder of the day.

And lastly…

5. Parking tickets will always be given only a few minutes before you get back to your car. I’ve parked illegally many a times on campus and have the glove compartment full of tickets to prove it, and it never seems to fail that the time stamp on the ticket is always only from a few minutes prior to me getting back to my car. It’s almost as if they know exactly when you’ll be arriving back to your car and time it just so to taunt you.

Stupid parking batches.

I finally got through the semester. I had my last presentation earlier today and now I am through until I walk that stage on Monday. The feeling of finally being through with my undergraduate career is like no other, I can’t even imagine how I’ll be feeling on Monday when I have on my cap and gown and it officially becomes a reality.

This semester was one of my toughest, if not the toughest. I was taking 18 hours, all MIS classes with the exception of my business capstone class, projects on top of projects as well as my Security+ certification. And yet, it turned out to be my most successful semester. I’ve gotten 5 grades back so far: 4 A’s and 1 B. I’m also expecting a B in the class I presented for today.

It’s amazing that it took me so long to get my act together. If you look at my transcript for the first 4 years you would be appalled at how poorly I did. But, if there’s anything I learned here at school it’s that it’s never too late. I’ve known so many people who gave up on their original majors because they couldn’t get their gpa up and switched to a “nothing” major with no gpa requirements just to graduate, but for me that was never an option (not trying to knock anyone who took that route though). It may have taken me longer than some other people but I stuck with it and pulled my grades up and now I’m finally graduating with my degree in Management Information Systems.

Sorry if I’m sounding preachy.

If you know me at all, you know I’m somewhat flashy. I’m not too out there with it, but I do like to go against the grain. So… for my graduation, no plain black shoes for me. I’m wearing my cow print BCBG pumps and I got a custom made sash so that I stand out just a little. I love it. (Don’t worry, lots of pics will be taken of the actual day).

I’m going to Orlando Tuesday and then Las Vegas after that, so I most likely won’t be updating till I get back, but I will try and keep my twitter updated for you. So, with that being said… Merry Christmas to everyone. And if you don’t celebrate Christmas then…. Happy Holidays to you!

Some of you already know, but in case you don’t I am now CompTIA Security+ certified. It was a requirement for a class I’m taking and I cursed my teacher out the entire time I was studying for this test, but I’m so glad I took it (and passed), because it makes me so much more marketable in my job search. If you’re in the IT/IS field, I highly recommend looking into getting some certifications if you haven’t already. I’m already thinking about my next one.

This test was no joke though, believe you me. I cursed and shook my fist at the computer a few times as I was taking the test, I’m sure whoever was watching me on the security cam was highly amused. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to pass as I pressed the submit button, but as soon as I saw “Congratulations, you have passed..” I couldn’t help but start cheesin. Yep, I’m a nerd.

I feel bad, because out of twenty-something students in my class so far only 4 of us have passed. Everyone else… not so much. But, at the same time it makes me feel kinda good that I’m one of the few people who have passed it.

Thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes and congratulations!

On the flip side though, if by some miracle I do pass, I will officially have my first certification. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

My Network Security class is the best. Hands down. I’ve never had another class that is regularly held at a deli, where we can drink beer and have the word penis mentioned regularly throughout the conversation.

Now, granted, we were talking about spam and such, but my class is such a crazy one that once one person mentions spam with subject lines that pertain to ‘penis enlargement’ and ‘viagra’, you can bet the conversation is going to keep coming back to that. And it did. I’m sure the other diners who happened to catch snippets of our class conversation thought we were nuts.

Honestly though, classes like this one are the ones I learn the most in. I can’t stand a teacher who just loves to hear the sound of his or her own voice. I generally stop listening after a few minutes. So a class like this one where interaction and conversation, no matter how crazy, is encouraged is one that I actually look forward to going to.

And on a sidenote, because I know some people are interested. I do think I have a job prospect. I’ll know more after the weekend. Plus, one of the companies that rejected me in ATL, has contacted me about a job in their Birmingham office. I’m not too interested in moving to Birmingham, but I’m going to look into it anyways. Wish me luck!

I’m a skinny girl, have been my whole life. But because the last few semesters my classes have all been in one building I no longer get my cardio of walking across campus to get from class to class. This has lead me to gain some weight, which I wouldn’t mind except it’s always in the same 2 places. Breast and belly. Now, the breast I don’t mind, but the belly, I could do without.

In my effort to not become a skinny fat girl, you know… a skinny girl with a fat belly, I’ve started doing some exercises. Of course, it’s nothing that requires me to leave the presence of my television, but something is better than nothing. Right? Right.

So, for the last week or so, my exercise routine has consisted of crunches and leg lifts. I’ll do 50 crunches, then 100 leg lifts each, and then another 50 crunches. While doing my leg lifts I’ve discovered that I can not count. 24 years old and I can not count. Each and every single time while counting I jump from 89 to 100. Every single time.

I guess it’s time for me to revisit the 3rd grade.

And I don’t mean as in sold out… more like as in they only carry books up to MNGT 4800. Which, doesn’t help me at all, seeing as all my classes are pretty much in the MNGT 5000 range and above. I guess it’s for the better, seeing as I saved mucho dinero by ordering them from Amazon. But I do wish I would have known this fact before I walked my not-so-happy tail across campus, in the blazing heat, only to be sadly disappointed. It had to have been a good 104 degrees outside, add that to the fact that I am now sporting fresh new bangs which were nice and damp across my forehead. Yeah, it wasn’t cute. Not at all.
