If you know me, or follow me on twitter, then you know I like to frequent the bar. But that’s neither here nor there. The bar is merely the setting for quite possibly the most annoying conversation I’ve ever had regarding my tattoos. And let me preface this by saying that I am not opposed to explaining my ink to those who are in fact curious about them, but if you see I’m busy having an intense conversation with someone else, then that’s probably (and when I say probably, I mean it’s not) the right time to ask me a million and four questions about my ink. And so the story begins… One night, I’m at the bar with my homegirl. I forget exactly what we were talking about, but I do remember it being a pretty in depth conversation. Next thing I know, I’m getting tapped on the shoulder…

him: *tap tap tap* I like your tattoos.
me: *turns around* Thanks. *turns back around*
him: *tap tap tap* So… how many do you have?
me: *turns around* A lot. *turns back around*
him: *tap tap tap* What do they mean?
me: *turns around* They don’t mean anything. *turns back around*
him: *tap tap tap* So… if they dont mean anything, why did you get them?
me: *turns around* I don’t know. I just did. *turns back around*
him: *tap tap tap* Well, that’s not a very good reason.
me: *turns around* I know. *turns back around*

Now, it may not read very well, but if you couldn’t tell, I was pretty irritated after the second *tap tap tap* so all my answers thereafter were, of course, replies of sarcasm. I don’t know if he could tell… although probably not, seeing as the *tap tap tap*’s kept coming, but ladies and gentleman, take heed, if someone’s answers to your questions are short and then they actually turn their back on you, they’re probably (and when I say probably, they’re not) interested in talking to you.

Sharing is caring. I got y’all back.

I get asked stupid questions on the daily. I could easily give you a good 30 just from my coworker who I so lovingly like to call Dum Dum. She don’t know I call her that, but I do, and for good reason. BUT, this isn’t that kinda blog. Therefore, I’m going to go over my top 5 most hated dumb ass question. Ready?

1. “Why don’t you have a boyfriend?”

This is probably my number one most annoying question. For one, do you want me to have one? Cause if I did, I wouldn’t be talking to you. And really, what are you expecting me to say? You want me to tell you I’m crazy? My pussy stink? I get crazy jealous? Why can’t I just be a nice, normal girl who happens to be single and content?

My answer: “I just don’t.”

2. “What do you like to for fun?”

This may seem like a normal question, but it’s one of those questions that have infinite answers. You really want me to rattle off everything that I do for fun? Cause, I’m not. Even when I try to answer with a short simple question, I always get slapped with stupid question 2a. “That’s it?” and 2b. “What else?”.

My answer: “Lay around and be lazy.”

3. “You have any other pretty friends that look like you?”

Now in all honesty, ALL my friends are beautiful, but NONE of them look like me. But even if they did, you’re still not going to meet them. What I look like going back to one of my homegirls talking about “Hey, this guy wants to meet you, he doesn’t know anything about you, except that you look like me.” BOY, STOP.

My answer: “Naw, all my friends are ugly.”

4. “So, are you going to call me?”

Now, this question is really only stupid, if I’ve already told you that I’m not. I have on more than one occasion taken a number, but only after I prefaced it with “I’ll take your number, but I’m not going to call”. And that only comes after the whole “Can I get your number?” “No.” “Well, how about you take mine?” shuffle. You would think that after all of that a guy wouldn’t want to give you their number anymore, but NAW, they still do. And right as you’re walking away, they hit you with the “So, are you going to call me?”

My answer: No words. I just turn, smile and continue to walk away.

5. “So, you don’t have ANY black in you?”

If I just explained to you that I’m half Korean and half white, why would you even ask this? You think I forgot what I’m mixed with?

My answer: o_O

It’s been brought to my attention that I write about relationships alot, despite the fact that it’s been many years since I’ve actually been in one. To that, I say “so what.”

Just cause I’m not in one, doesn’t mean I don’t know anything about them, or that I don’t know how I like to be treated when in one or when being courted. And really, everything I write here is from my own point of view. I don’t speak for every women (or even man, whatever) and don’t claim to. Some people agree with me and the others… well, they’re just stupid (that was a joke, laugh).

But surprisingly, I do know a little something. Which brings me to a related topic. Single people are not the devil. It really is okay to ask us for advice and use it. I’ve read more than once that you shouldn’t take relationship advice from a single person. And quite frankly, that’s some bull. Just cause we don’t have a significant other, doesn’t mean we don’t have brains. When you come up to me every other day complaining about how your baby daddy done went and knocked another girl up, doesn’t give you money for your own kid and pretty much treats you like crap, well me telling you to leave him, is pretty genius advice. Yep. AND, if you don’t like the advice someone gives you, then all you have to do is say “thanks, but I think I’ll handle this on my own.” It’s really just that simple.

For the sake of diversity tho, I’ll try to branch out and write on something different next go round. Shoes, perhaps. You can’t go wrong with shoes.

ps. The title quote is via Bill Cosby. I knew I liked that man for a reason.

Now don’t get me wrong. I live for technology. LIVE FOR IT. But sometimes it makes it way to easy to get comfortable with someone , and not in snuggie sense of the word.

I don’t even think some people know how to use the phone anymore. It ’s all texting and twitter nowadays (and before that facebook, and before that myspace). Neither of which I’m against. But twitter does not a date make.

There’s an episode of Samantha Who? (yeah, I hadn’t heard of the show either, it only lasted 2 seasons anyway) where Andrea is so comfortable with her “text message dates” with her boo, that she doesn’t want to go on an actual date with him for fear that that she might say something stupid. Text messaging gives her the option to plan her words out, spell check, erase… that the thought of actually speaking to dude scared her.

Is that the mentality of today? We feel so protected by our technological shield that we’re afraid to come out from behind it?

I know I’m much more in favor of a conversation where both parties actually have to use their voices. And anyone who wants to get near these cookies, better get with it too.

Now twit that. And remember kids, sharing is caring.

Now before I start, let me preface this by saying, that I, myself, have been guilty of what I like to call the ‘push back’. You know, when the person you’ve been seeing starts getting a little too relationship-y, therefore causing you to push back and say “Hey, hold up, I ain’t ready for allathat” or in most cases, not saying anything at all and just acting distant like a sonofamother.

Yeah, you’ve done it too. Stop lying.

But let me tell you, some of y’all, be pushing back over the dumbest things. I once had a dude start acting funny cause I gave his ass a toothbrush after one of our sleepovers. Yes, a toothbrush. Now, wasn’t nobody trying to lock him down, make him the next Mr. DidyoureallythinkIwasfinnatellyoumylastname. I just was trying to make sure that if he was going to be waking up next to me, breathing all in my face, that said breath was minty fresh. I mean, excuse me for not wanting your funky breath all up in my face in the morning.

Basically, some people just really need to chill the fuck out. Not everybody is trying to cuff you. Just cause they like it, doesn’t mean they’re trying to put a ring on it (I really don’t know what Beyonce was thinking about with them lyrics).

Now, there are some clear-cut signs of stalker-ism that do require the push back in full force, but that’s a blog for another day.

Be safe kids. And remember, hugs not drugs.

It’s been a long time since I’ve fallen in love with somebody. And really, that’s only even happened once in my 26 years. I like to blame it on my G-ness and that us natural born G’s just don’t fall in love, but love really just seems to elude me. What appears to come naturally to others, always is such a chore to me. Maybe I’m too picky… or stubborn… or just plain love-challenged. Who knows.

But… I’m not complaining, because when love does come around and smack me in the face (figuratively speaking of course, cause Flip’ll come lay the smack down on any man who lays hands on me), then I’m sure it’ll be all that much more special. And to be quite honest… I’m looking forward to it.

So earlier today I posted the following on twitter:

@vickysecret Just cause someone treats you like a priority, doesn’t mean that you’re not quietly just an option. (my words of wisdom for the day)

Now, I was having dinner with a girlfriend the other day and we were talking about her now defunct relationship and how the guy was such a “great” boyfriend. Always surprising her with gifts, trips, paying her so much attention, etc, etc. So, she couldn’t understand when she found out that he had cheated and had been cheating on her what had happened. I couldn’t help but tell her that he was probably doing all those “great” things to make up for all the bullshit that he was doing on the sly. Yeah, they were together for years, and I mean years, but she was still just an option to him. And he clearly was opting to go elsewhere from time to time. It’s sad, but apparently in this world we live in, this is how a lot of people are thinking. And, I’m not singling out the men, this is the women too.

It’s human nature to try and make up for any pain you may or might cause someone. Shoot, when I was younger, every time Flip would give me a stern talking to, I could pretty much guarentee that he was going to come back shortly with a present, or some ice cream, or some kinda joke to try and make up for it. Even though, I’m pretty sure whatever he was getting on me about was my fault. Like I said… human nature.

Now, I’m not trying to be a cynic, not at all… I’m definitely not saying that just because your boo surprises you with a present or is paying extra attention to you that they’re out they’re slutting it up behind your back. Cause that’s not always the case. There are definitely still a lot of good people out there.

You ever been in a relationship where your significant other was whoring around, and you could see all the signs, but you didn’t really want to admit it until you saw it with your own eyes?

Well… that feeling… the feeling of knowing, but not really knowing… I’ve lived with something similar to that for the last 15 years.

I never really knew my Grandpa. I think I have one picture of him and I together from when I was just a baby, but it never bothered me that I didn’t know him. I was used to being away from family seeing as I lived overseas until I was 18. He passed back in 1994 but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I started to learn a little more about him. He was a frivolous with his money, loved to drink, loved to smoke and apparently loved the ladies. And I knew all of this. But I didn’t really know until last night, when I got a call from my Dad. He shared some stories, forwarded me some emails and some pictures, and I was able to really get a feel for this man, my father’s father. And no, my Dad didn’t feel like just sharing some stories just for the heck of it, he was actually contacted by a woman claiming to be his sister. Turns out the claims are true, and he wanted me to know that I have another aunt…

Now, I don’t have any hate towards my Grandfather… not at all. I’m saddened at the situation because I don’t like the choices he made. I really don’t like that he disregarded my Grandmother’s feelings so much and left her with nothing when he died. He promised to make sure that she was taken care of, but because of the choices he made, she was left with nothing. No job, no education, no money. And because she was such a proud woman and didn’t want to burden anyone, she felt the only thing she could do was take her life. Which she did. And I think that’s what hurts me the most. Actually I know that’s what hurt me the most.

I was only 11 when she passed, just a few months after my Grandfather did. And back then I remember being angry. Angry because she didn’t have to die, it was a choice she made. And I felt that she made it without thinking of how it would affect everyone else. And I was jealous. I was jealous of my cousins for being able to spend so much time with her, time that I couldn’t spend with her because I lived in Germany. I eventually got over myself and just became sad, and I still get sad to this day whenever I think about her.

To be honest, I’m not even really sure what I’m trying to say here. I guess just trying to clear my head. But I’m glad that this all came to light, and glad that now I really know…

I was talking to the homie earlier when I mentioned I needed to go to Walmart.

“For what? Draino?”

Now, he was joking, but you know what… that’s exactly what I was going to get. It really doesn’t make sense the amount of Draino I’ve used this past year having to constantly unclog my drain with all the hair that falls out of my head. Like, really? Why am I not bald. I mean, I’m not complaining. It just baffles me, because not to sound conceited, but I got me a pretty nice head of hair.

And really, I’m greatful, cause the comb-over didn’t work on my 7th grade history teacher, so I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t work on me either. Although, a few years ago, I did have the bright idea of shaving my head and buying beaucoup wigs so I wouldn’t have to worry about doing my hair anymore. Don’t worry, I didn’t follow through. The thought of waking up in the morning next to the boo and having him discover a bald chick didn’t quite appeal to me. I mean, come on Kanye, don’t you think Amber would look much better with some hair on her head.

Don’t ask me what the point of this entry was. I think lack of sleep has finally caught up with me.

I went to the doctor yesterday for what I thought was foot cancer1 (yeah… I know, the doc looked at me kinda sideways too) but turned out to be an extremely infected spider bite which he decided he wanted to cut open – guess I shouldn’t have waited 2 weeks to go get it checked out.

My response:

“Ummm…. I would prefer if you didn’t slice my foot open, young, sexy, Venezuelan doctor2, but do what you got to do.”

So, now I’m walking around with my foot bandaged up, unable to put on a decent pair of shoes & it is killing me. I’m sorry, but I am just not a sandal kinda girl. Still, I guess it’s better than having my whole foot fall off. That would really suck.

1. Not the first time I thought I had cancer. When I was about 15 I found a lump in my armpit… turns out it wasn’t armpit cancer, just a bad reaction to the Dove deodorant I was using. Oh, and those lumps I felt in my neck last year, not neck cancer. Just some swollen lymphnodes. I tend to get a lot of weird looks from doctors.

2. Okay, so the young, sexy, Venezuelan part I didn’t actually say out loud, but I should’ve.

Okay… so really, I haven’t been looking for a man. The lack of is just an observation that a blind person could make. But, I have been looking for a home. I mean… your girl got a good job (thankful for this everyday) and with as much as I’m paying in rent every month I may as well be paying a mortgage. A lot of people say this, but I really mean it. You do not want to see the check that I have to write every month.

Now, I have been looking HIGH and LOW for that perfect home. The one that just screams Victoria… but seeing as that hasn’t happened yet, and I’ve been looking since October, I’ve expanded my search to include homes that just say it very loudly. I mean, I watch a lot of HGTV, as long as it’s got the potential I can spruce it up a bit. Little paint, little love, you know.

But tell me why, the few places I have been interested in have been on the market for 9789 days with no interest and the minute I decide to put in an offer everyone else wants to too. I swear, it’s just like people… nobody wants you till someone else does. So, with that being said, I’m still without that perfect place. My lease is up on March 9, so if I don’t find somewhere soon, you just may see me & Tyson chillin in midtown with the rest of the homeless folks cause I refuse to sign another lease or go month by month.

Pray for me good people.

At work after we’ve completed a project we have what’s called a Lessons Learned… basically a “this is what the hell our dumbasses did wrong and how to hopefully not do that dumb shit again” session. I’ve found that this concept can also be applied to life. Here’s my my lessons learned concerning the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Do not sign up for the newspaper if you have no intention of ever reading it no matter how cute the guy who showed up at your doorstep selling subscriptions is. Twice.

If you do somehow become suckered into signing up for 3 month subscription (twice) by said cute newspaper subscription guy then refrain from picking newspaper on doorstep up and bringing it into the house. They will not deliver new paper while old paper is still on doorstep – thus keeping you from having pile of unread newspapers inside foyer.

Do not give cute newspaper subscription guy permission to call you (if he steals phone number off of subscription paper there’s not much you can do about that). Remember that if he turns out to be crazy which he most likely will… he now has your first name, last name, phone number and address.

Yes, AJC, I have linked you. No, I am not looking for a free subscription in return for this advertising. Please keep your newspapers to yourself – cash donations though… are always welcome.

I don’t speak to my mother often. Not because she wrote some daughter-hating memoir about me causing us to fall out, but because I live in Atlanta and she lives in Seoul. Two different continents… two very different time zones… this tends to make it a little harder to find a good time to call. But when I do finally get to talk to her it’s all comedy from there. One of our latest conversations had her inquiring about my recent real estate search. It went a little something like this:

Her: So, have you still been looking at condoms?
Me: Uh, what?!
Her: Condoms… have you still been looking?
Me: Um…. condos, Ma?
Her: Oh shit. Yeah, condos.
(insert laughter from both sides here)
Me: I’m going to need for you to not ever ask anybody that ever again. Okay.

I love my mother.

I don’t talk to my parents often, but not because we don’t have a good relationship. On the contrary, my parents and I actually have a great, solid relationship, but when you live in Atlanta and they live in Seoul, finding a good time for an actual phone conversation can prove difficult at times. Still, one thing I can always count on in every conversation is my Mother asking me if I’ve found a boyfriend yet. I’m sure it can’t just be mine, yours must ask you that too… right? I don’t know if she’s disappointed that I’ve been answering this question with the same”No Ma, no boyfriend yet” for the past 4 years or relieved. Although, I’m guessing it’s the former seeing as last night she came back with “Really, not even after moving to this big new city?” I then had to explain to her the logistics of living in Atlanta. Now, I’ve only been a resident since March, but so far I’ve only men I’ve come across have either been too short (now, I’m only 5′5, so if I think they’re short, then that should tell you something), gay or married. None of which, I’m interested in.

But to be honest, I’m not on the prowl anyways. I just happen to be one of the few females who actually can be happy sans-relationship. I’m still young(ish) and I have a lot of plans for myself that a man just might get in the way of. But, should one come along that is not already in a relationship, can actually see over my head, is not into men, can support himself and most importantly not get on my nerves... well, I won’t completely dismiss him either.

But until then, I’m good.

PS. Let me end by saying I am not trying to down Atlanta men, I’m sure not all of you are horizontally challenged. Nor gay. A few of you are probably even single… I just haven’t met you yet.

Thankfully I’m not one.

If I had to watch what I eat all the time and work out 5 days a week I think I’d go crazy. I’d also be failing miserably at it right now. Working a “9-5″ leaves me no interest to cook anything when I get home, so I eat fast food for pretty much every meal. Popeye’s owns me. Seriously. I did manage to get motivated for about 3 days and go to the gym. Since then though… eh, not so much. I’m hoping the uphill walk from the parking lot to my work building constitutes as enough daily exercise to keep me from becoming a fat ass. Although, I seriously doubt it. Especially considering I only go into the office 3 days a week. The other 2 days all I have to do is roll out of bed and onto my couch. Working from home really is lovely.

So now, while I may not be a supermodel, I am in fact – SUPER!

I managed to go the whole months of March & April without updating this, and for that I apologize. It makes me wonder how people manage to have jobs and blog at the same time, cause when I come home from work all I want to do is fall out on the couch and watch Friends reruns. Looking at the computer all day at work, and then coming home and looking at it some more just doesn’t appeal to me all that much… and my computer used to pretty much be my life. Sad times, sad times.

But life is good. Work is good. ATL is good.

I wasn’t sure how the transition into the “real world” was going to be, but it hasn’t been bad at all. Plus the fact that I can work from couch makes it even lovelier… and the money don’t hurt either.

I’m loving ATL too, but that’s no surprise. I’ve always enjoyed Atlanta and the abundance of things to do here. Plus the fact that the clubs here are actually clubs is a refreshing change as opposed to frat parties being held in Chili’s or at some Chinese buffet… yeah. I’m glad to finally be able to leave the life of a college student behind.

While this may not be the most interesting update, I believe it serves it’s purpose of letting you know that I am in fact not dead well. Besides, I’ve been promised that some entertainment will be going on in the comments section of this entry…

So, let the entertainment begin.

This whole job searching process wasn’t exactly the groove, so I’m definitely glad that it’s over. And, after all this I ended up getting two job offers within the same company. Two! Who would’ve thunk it.

I did accept their offer for a position as a Project Specialist and pretty soon I will be on my way to ATL.

I will say that I’m glad it turned out this way. They say everything happens for a reason, and I believe them. Being able to have these 2 months to rest and relax (read: sit on my ass) instead of jumping right into work is definitely what I needed. Plus, I’m working for whom I believe to be a great company, with great pay and great benefits.

I just hope corporate America is ready for me.

I’m tired of getting stuck behind tractors on the road.

I’m tired of worrying that my house is going to be blown away during a big storm.

I’m tired of living in small town that revolves solely around the university and football.

I’m just tired.

I need to be in a city. A city with high-rise buildings. With clubs that stay open past 2 and aren’t filled with college students. I need to be in a city with options. More than one movie theatre. More than one bowling alley. More than one mall. I need to be in a city filled with diversity.

And if for no other reason, I need to move simply for the fact that my landlord is stalking me.

I shop. Online. All the time.

I guess I just needed that little bit of motivation and the other day I got it. But not in a “yeah girl, you definitely could do this” kinda way, more in a “you’re not finna do that, why are you even wasting my time talking to me about it” kinda way. So of course, I had to do it. Not only to prove it to him but to prove it to myself.

So thanks guy. And no, this is not a dedication to you. I’m not even going to acknowledge you. Unless this fails, then you’ll get all the credit.

I’ve been out of school for almost 2 months now, so my daily activity of doing absolutely nothing has given me a lot of time to ponder my years spent in college and what I learned over those years.

1. On campus housing not only comes with free internet connection but it also comes with an endless supply of roaches. Now, I’ve always stayed off campus so I was lucky enough to bypass this luxury, but I’ve known a many who did and while visiting I’ve on more than one occasion turned my head to come face to face with one.

2. Spending all day on the yard socializing instead of going to class can oftentimes lead to very unfortunate tan lines. I learned this the hard way after wearing a shirt with criss-cross straps that led to a very white, very noticeable X on my back for the rest of the summer. Let’s just say it severely cut down my clothing options for awhile after that.

3. Moving closer to a fight to get a better view probably isn’t the best idea. Now, you know you’ve done it too. You’re at a party, someone starts fighting and you just got to get closer to see what’s going on. It seems harmless until get you hit in the head with a stray bottle. Yeah… it happened to me.

Good thing I have a hard head.

4. The rain will stop almost immediately after you get to where you’re going. I’ve always been too stubborn to run out in the rain, plus I always have my handy dandy mini leopard print umbrella on hand if needed, but I like to learn by watching other people. And I’ve learned plenty from watching other students run from building to building in the pouring rain only to have it stop moments after they step foot inside. Maybe it’s just me, but being a few minutes late sounds likes a much better deal than sitting around in wet draws for the remainder of the day.

And lastly…

5. Parking tickets will always be given only a few minutes before you get back to your car. I’ve parked illegally many a times on campus and have the glove compartment full of tickets to prove it, and it never seems to fail that the time stamp on the ticket is always only from a few minutes prior to me getting back to my car. It’s almost as if they know exactly when you’ll be arriving back to your car and time it just so to taunt you.

Stupid parking batches.

I don’t go out often, but it seems whenever I do something exciting, or in last nights case scary happens.

As my girls and I were trying to get into my car after leaving the club last night this black Escalade comes flying around the corner, jumps a couple of sidewalks and barriers almost hits a drive-through ATM, swerves and comes flying at us (the scary part) but at the last minute swerves again and jumps another barrier where ends up under this walkway in the parking deck and finally crashes.

It was so crazy to see this live and in person, I wish I could’ve videotaped it, because unless you were actually there seeing it for yourself you wouldn’t really believe it. The really crazy part was only a few minutes before the girl who was also in the car (and whose car it was) was driving but she switched places with the guy so he could drive. So, had she been driving all this wouldn’t have happened. The really messed up part was after it happened, he climbed out the window and just walked off. He didn’t even run, he just calmly walked off like nothing had even happened.

I was thinking back to my younger days, when $5 was a lot of money to have in my pocket but I was always quick to spend it on some candy (I’ve never been good at saving). No worries and always something to do, even when there was absolutely nothing to do. Me and my friends would jump on our bikes and just ride, or sit outside doing nothing and it was always so much fun. Whatever happened to those days? It seems like the older you get, the less there is to do, and when there is something to do, it requires money. What happened to just having fun?

Now don’t get me wrong, my friends and I do have the occasional spurts of carefree fun days when we’ll go to the park and play on the swings like we’re tweens again, but it’s rare.

I miss those days. The good old days.

I finally got through the semester. I had my last presentation earlier today and now I am through until I walk that stage on Monday. The feeling of finally being through with my undergraduate career is like no other, I can’t even imagine how I’ll be feeling on Monday when I have on my cap and gown and it officially becomes a reality.

This semester was one of my toughest, if not the toughest. I was taking 18 hours, all MIS classes with the exception of my business capstone class, projects on top of projects as well as my Security+ certification. And yet, it turned out to be my most successful semester. I’ve gotten 5 grades back so far: 4 A’s and 1 B. I’m also expecting a B in the class I presented for today.

It’s amazing that it took me so long to get my act together. If you look at my transcript for the first 4 years you would be appalled at how poorly I did. But, if there’s anything I learned here at school it’s that it’s never too late. I’ve known so many people who gave up on their original majors because they couldn’t get their gpa up and switched to a “nothing” major with no gpa requirements just to graduate, but for me that was never an option (not trying to knock anyone who took that route though). It may have taken me longer than some other people but I stuck with it and pulled my grades up and now I’m finally graduating with my degree in Management Information Systems.

Sorry if I’m sounding preachy.

If you know me at all, you know I’m somewhat flashy. I’m not too out there with it, but I do like to go against the grain. So… for my graduation, no plain black shoes for me. I’m wearing my cow print BCBG pumps and I got a custom made sash so that I stand out just a little. I love it. (Don’t worry, lots of pics will be taken of the actual day).

I’m going to Orlando Tuesday and then Las Vegas after that, so I most likely won’t be updating till I get back, but I will try and keep my twitter updated for you. So, with that being said… Merry Christmas to everyone. And if you don’t celebrate Christmas then…. Happy Holidays to you!

Some of you already know, but in case you don’t I am now CompTIA Security+ certified. It was a requirement for a class I’m taking and I cursed my teacher out the entire time I was studying for this test, but I’m so glad I took it (and passed), because it makes me so much more marketable in my job search. If you’re in the IT/IS field, I highly recommend looking into getting some certifications if you haven’t already. I’m already thinking about my next one.

This test was no joke though, believe you me. I cursed and shook my fist at the computer a few times as I was taking the test, I’m sure whoever was watching me on the security cam was highly amused. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to pass as I pressed the submit button, but as soon as I saw “Congratulations, you have passed..” I couldn’t help but start cheesin. Yep, I’m a nerd.

I feel bad, because out of twenty-something students in my class so far only 4 of us have passed. Everyone else… not so much. But, at the same time it makes me feel kinda good that I’m one of the few people who have passed it.

Thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes and congratulations!

As you can probably tell, I’ve been seriously slacking when it comes to this blog. I apologize, really I do. But when you’re in your last semester of school, taking 18 hours, with 3 group projects, 1 individual project, a 5 page paper, while preparing to take the Security+ certification test, blogging is last on the list of priorities. All that plus searching for a ‘real’ job, which is no joke, leaves me incredibly worn out at the end of the day.

Well… since I last posted 17 long days ago, a few things have happened… the most significant being that my (favorite) Aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer. She found out on October 30th… how’s that for breast cancer awareness. I went through a lot of emotions after hearing the news, but I can’t help but feel ashamed, because after feeling grief and sadness for my Uncle and cousins, I could only feel relieved that it wasn’t my own Mother who was diagnosed. I’m amazed by my own selfishness.

I’ve also had some interesting attempts at communication from a stalker I have. Now, I’m no stranger to stalkers, the count is up to 3 now, as far as I know, levels of scariness varying. This particular stalker, who I’ll call Marcus, because, well… that’s his name is more annoying than anything. He calls me at least twice everyday. I also have texts after texts from him, which I never reply to, they started out innocent enough, but he’s escalated to trying to solicit me for money, telling me how he’ll please me, etc. The texts are kinda offensive, especially if I told you just how much money he was trying to offer me. I’m not for sale, but if I was, I’d be worth much more. He actually should be glad I’m not answering the phone, because if I do, I’ll have a few choice words for him and they won’t be nice.

Stalker aside, I still have not gotten any job offers or callbacks. I traveled to Birmingham Friday for an interview day with a software company up there. It was a long 5 hours, and I’m not feeling to good about it. The day was nice overall, just long. There was a company overview, tour and I had 2 interviews. The interviews were going well but in each one I was asked to get up on the white board and do some work, the first being to draw a database and second I had to write a crazy ‘for statement’. Because of those two tasks I’m feeling a little uneasy about whether or not I’ll be contacted for another interview, but then again I’m not too excited about staying in Alabama either. So I guess it’s all good either way.

My Network Security class is the best. Hands down. I’ve never had another class that is regularly held at a deli, where we can drink beer and have the word penis mentioned regularly throughout the conversation.

Now, granted, we were talking about spam and such, but my class is such a crazy one that once one person mentions spam with subject lines that pertain to ‘penis enlargement’ and ‘viagra’, you can bet the conversation is going to keep coming back to that. And it did. I’m sure the other diners who happened to catch snippets of our class conversation thought we were nuts.

Honestly though, classes like this one are the ones I learn the most in. I can’t stand a teacher who just loves to hear the sound of his or her own voice. I generally stop listening after a few minutes. So a class like this one where interaction and conversation, no matter how crazy, is encouraged is one that I actually look forward to going to.

And on a sidenote, because I know some people are interested. I do think I have a job prospect. I’ll know more after the weekend. Plus, one of the companies that rejected me in ATL, has contacted me about a job in their Birmingham office. I’m not too interested in moving to Birmingham, but I’m going to look into it anyways. Wish me luck!

I got my second rejection letter the other day. Same deal pretty much.

We enjoyed meeting you.
We are impressed with your qualifications.
We regret we can not offer you a second round interview.
The decision was difficult.

Now, because I hate to think that it has something to do with my personality or just me in general, I’ll blame it on the fact that I may just be too flashy. I tried to tone down, I really did. I downsized my earrings, cut my nails (gasp), went with a neutral nail polish color (okay, maybe red isn’t neutral but it’s as neutral as it’s going to get over here), bought some boring black shoes, tried to make sure all my tattoos were covered… but I guess it wasn’t enough.

Maybe my suit wasn’t suity enough. But honestly, traditional suits are just fugly to me so until I find one that is halfway decent, it’s just not going to happen. I’m sorry. Maybe the fuschia shirt I wore underneath my jacket threw them off. But I got to throw some color in there somewhere. Maybe my new foot tattoo made an appearance and someone saw. Who knows.

Whatever it was I know it couldn’t have been my personality because, lets face it, I’m the greatest.

So… I’m going to wait to hear from these last two companies before I drag my tired, fabulous ass back out there and start interviewing again. I got my fingers crossed.

Maybe it’s the old lady in me again, but by the time I get home from school all I really feel like doing is laying on the couch to watch Law & Order marathons all night. School really has me drained right now, 18 hours is no joke and when you’ve been carrying that big of a load for 3 semesters straight plus a full load in the summer, it becomes somewhat overwhelming. I’ll be glad when December gets here. Now if someone would just give me a freakin job!! I went on my third interview today, and let me tell you it was no joke. He started asking me all these logic questions at the end that threw me for a loop. For example:

If Mary and Sally caught 25 fish, and Mary caught 4 times more than Sally, how many fish did Mary catch?

I got the questions right, but I had to ask buddy to repeat each one about 3 times. I really just wasn’t expecting these types of questions during my interview. Hopefully he didn’t think I was too big of an idiot.

The company I interview with yesterday already got in contact with me to tell me that they were impressed, but unfortunately not interested. I’m disappointed, especially since I thought I did the best with them, but oh well. Nothing to jump in front of a bus over.

Maybe I shouldn’t have spent all these years learning… instead of wasting my time in the library I should’ve been scoping me out a rich husband, lol.

I often wonder about what is going through some people minds to make them do the things that they do. A certain basketball player from my school, I won’t tell you his name, or what school I go to for that matter, got his car towed the other day. Now, I’ve gotten my car towed before and it’s not pleasant. But, I sucked it up, paid the $80 fine and went about my business. For whatever reason, he decided it was in his best interest to jump the tow company’s fence, get in his car and drive it through the gate. Yep, he stole his car back, got caught by the police and had to spend the night in jail. The coach, I’m sure, can not be very happy.

And now, on top of the tow fine, he owes over $1500 in damages.

Was he drunk? I don’t know, but I sure hope so cause if not he is one of the biggest idiots I know.

Who would have though at 24, I would become such an old, grumpy lady. I actually called the po-po (yes, I said po-po) Saturday night on my neighbors for partying too loud. They were 4 houses away, I had my TV on and I could still hear them clearly. They were so loud, I actually thought it was my next door neighbors partying until I walked outside and saw they were at the end of the street. So, I went inside, kindly rang up the police and then went and watched out my window to see if they would actually show up. If you couldn’t tell I didn’t have much else to do. The police didn’t show up on my watch, but who knows if they came later.

If you think about though, I kinda did the party-goers a favor, because everyone knows a party ain’t a party until the police show up.

While I don’t think of myself as a great writer, I’ve never had as much trouble writing about something as I am now. I start, stop, cry, erase and then start all over again. It’s hard enough remembering Emily without crying but to actually express this in the written word is proving to be much more difficult that I thought it would be.

While I doubt I’ll ever forget Emily, her smile is something I know I’ll remember forever. Still, she was so much more than just a smile. She accomplished so many things in her 23 years. She made history. She touched lives. Mine included. I consider myself very lucky to have known her and to have been able to call her a friend.

“Her tenacity, her passion for life. One of the things that was important to Emily was not the fear of death but the fear of not living.” – Faith Bell

Now, the breast I don’t mind, but the belly, I could do without.

In my effort to not become a skinny fat girl, you know… a skinny girl with a fat belly, I’ve started doing some exercises. Of course, it’s nothing that requires me to leave the presence of my television, but something is better than nothing. Right? Right.

So, for the last week or so, my exercise routine has consisted of crunches and leg lifts. I’ll do 50 crunches, then 100 leg lifts each, and then another 50 crunches. While doing my leg lifts I’ve discovered that I can not count. 24 years old and I can not count. Each and every single time while counting I jump from 89 to 100. Every single time.

I guess it’s time for me to revisit the 3rd grade.

My luck usually sucks, but this one time Lady Luck had my back. So after talking to one of the Apple reps earlier, my beloved iPhone is getting sent back to Apple to be replaced with an 8 gig. Some others… not so lucky.

And since I am talking about Apple, what’s up with the new iPod Touch only coming in 8 or 16 gig? Might as well just buy the phone.

During a quest to find a book for class, I heard something quite amusing. So amusing that I actually had to turn around and walk away so as not to literally roll on the floor and laugh my ass off, in this poor old guy’s face.

Turns out this guy was trying to rent some movies but couldn’t. I was only halfway listening, but some things just catch your attention. This is the conversation I heard with E being the employee, and OG being the old guy, or original gangster, whichever you prefer.

E: Sir, you already have movies checked out.

OG: Oh, I didn’t realize.

E: Do you remember what movies they are?

OG: No. What are they?

E: (without a discreet bone in her little body)

         Playboy TV, naughty…

Now, I don’t judge. To each his own. But the situation was so hilarious, and maybe you had to be there to get the full effect and actually see this little old guy, but it took everything in me to hold in my laughter.

Hence, today is day 1 of my license suspension.

I’m not letting it bother me though. I rarely go anywhere, anyway. It is a bit of a inconvenience with school, not so much during the day because I can take *gasp* the school bus. But I do have an evening lab that I will need to find a ride to, and I have at least 2 group projects which I will be having to meet my group for outside of regular school hours, I’m sure.

I’ve had a few people tell me I should just drive slowly, but with my luck, and my luck ain’t good, I’ll get pulled over for a broken taillight or some other random phenomenon.

Guess my insurance won’t be going down in December anymore.

What is it about toilets that are so attractive to cell phones causing them to dive in and commit suicide by drowning?

Sadly yesterday evening, my beautiful hot pink SLVR decided to take her own life. Or maybe subconsciously I threw her in, giving me reason to buy a new phone. I was able to revive her for a short time last night before she went into shock and started spazzing out. So, hopefully I’ll be able to do it again today for a few so that I can retrieve my address book. Either way it’s time to go phone shopping.

So my question is:

Which cell phone should I buy?

And I don’t mean as in sold out… more like as in they only carry books up to MNGT 4800. Which, doesn’t help me at all, seeing as all my classes are pretty much in the MNGT 5000 range and above. I guess it’s for the better, seeing as I saved mucho dinero by ordering them from Amazon. But I do wish I would have known this fact before I walked my not-so-happy tail across campus, in the blazing heat, only to be sadly disappointed. It had to have been a good 104 degrees outside, add that to the fact that I am now sporting fresh new bangs which were nice and damp across my forehead. Yeah, it wasn’t cute. Not at all.

I just spend $235 on bras & panties from Victoria’s Secret and that’s with a $75 discount. Maybe you’re thinking I should’ve just went to Walmart and bought the 5 pack of Hanes underwear and a nice cheap bra, but I just can’t do it. Nothing wrong with Hanes, I own a few pair for when I’m just lounging around the house, but some things you just shouldn’t skimp on and under garments is one of them. Especially when it comes to bra, a bad bra can ruin your whole day and a nice outfit.

Still, I guess it’s quite a hefty price to pay for something no one (well, maybe no one) else is going to see… but you know what, I wouldn’t choose for it to be any other way.
